Translations

SMS for WooCommerce is localized and translatable by default. It’s compatible with WordPress translation plugins, and we’ve added translations for the following languages:

Two different things you can translate

“Translating SMS for WooCommerce” can mean two different jobs, and it’s worth knowing which one you need before you start:

• The plugin’s own admin UI — labels, buttons, and settings screens that only you and your staff see. This follows WordPress’s own site language (or a per-user language override), and can also be translated with a standard WordPress translation tool such as WPML or Loco Translate.
• The SMS message templates sent to customers — the actual text of the order-status, shipment, and admin-alert messages. These are edited per status or event directly in the plugin’s own SMS Notifications settings, or translated into other languages using WPML or Loco Translate string translation on those specific template strings.

Changing your site’s admin language does not translate the SMS text your customers receive, and translating your SMS templates does not change what your own dashboard looks like — they’re handled separately, which is why this section has three separate guides.

A cost note for non-Latin languages

Standard SMS messages are encoded in GSM-7 and fit up to 160 characters per segment. Any language that requires Unicode characters — including Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati, Bulgarian, and Russian — forces the message into UCS-2 encoding instead, which cuts the per-segment limit to 70 characters. A message that would have fit in a single 160-character segment in English can split into three or more billed segments once translated into one of these languages, so budget your SMS costs accordingly when translating templates into a non-Latin language.
