Country Based Restrictions PRO works with the standard WooCommerce stack and a wide range of plugins. This page lists what is supported, and explains the one area that most often needs attention: page caching.
WooCommerce Core Features
- HPOS (High-Performance Order Storage) — fully compatible; the plugin declares HPOS compatibility.
- Cart and Checkout blocks — supported alongside the classic cart and checkout. When the customer changes their country in the Checkout block, restricted items are re-validated and removed from the cart.
- Block themes (Full Site Editing) — supported. Block themes have no classic widget areas, so add the country selector with the shortcode instead of the widget (see How to Use the Country Detection Shortcode).
- Page builders — works with Elementor, WPBakery, and UX Builder; the restriction message can be placed via the [cbr_message_position] shortcode.
Page Caching
Full-page caching is the most common cause of “restrictions stopped working”: a page rendered for a visitor in one country gets cached and served to visitors everywhere, so everyone sees that first visitor’s catalog. Three things keep detection working on a cached site:
- CBR PRO’s built-in cache exclusions — since version 4.3.6, any request with a country cookie, an active Country Detection widget, or a page containing the widget shortcodes is served with no-cache headers (DONOTCACHEPAGE). This is honored by WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket, WP Fastest Cache, LiteSpeed Cache, and most hosting-level caches. The country cookie is also registered as a cache-vary cookie with WP Rocket and LiteSpeed Cache automatically.
- WooCommerce’s caching-aware geolocation — in WooCommerce → Settings → General, set Default customer location to Geolocate (with page caching support), which resolves the country in the browser after the cached page loads.
- Server and CDN caches — caches outside WordPress (Cloudflare, Varnish, host-level full-page caches) don’t see WordPress constants. If countries display wrongly behind such a cache, exclude the shop, product, category, cart, and checkout pages from that cache, or configure it to vary on the country cookie.
