Customer Info lets you correct or update a customer’s details directly from their profile — no need to open the WordPress user editor or a specific order. Editing requires the Manage WooCommerce capability, so it is available to Administrators and Shop managers.
🎬 Video: editing is shown at the end of the Viewing a Single Customer video.
✏️ Editable fields
| Group | Fields |
|---|---|
| Account | Email address, user role, display name, first and last name. |
| Billing | Name, company, email, phone, address 1 & 2, city, state, postcode, country. |
| Shipping | Name, company, phone, address 1 & 2, city, state, postcode, country. (Shipping has no email field — only billing does.) |
💾 Saving changes
- Open the customer’s profile and click the Customer Details panel icon at the top-right — or choose Edit Customer from the row’s actions menu in The Customers List.
- Click Edit on the Customer Info card (account fields) or the Addresses card (billing and shipping).
- Change the fields you need, then click Save. Only the fields you actually changed are written back; use the × button next to Save to cancel.
⚠️ What each change does
| Field | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Must be valid and not already used by another account. When it changes, WordPress sends its standard Notice of Email Change to the customer’s previous email address — so the customer is told. | |
| User role | Changed only when you pick a different, valid role. The dropdown shows the roles your own account is allowed to assign. The change takes effect immediately; the customer is not notified. |
| Addresses | Updates the customer’s saved billing/shipping on their account. It does not change any past order — each order keeps the address it was placed with. |
| Country & state | Chosen from the standard WooCommerce country and state lists. |
Changing a role is a powerful action — grant customer-editing access only to staff you trust with it. A user’s role controls what they can do across your whole site, so treat role edits with the same care as any other permission change. Edits are not written to an audit log by the plugin, so keep your own record if your store needs to track who changed what.
Edits do not flow back into history. Correcting an address or name updates the customer’s account going forward. Invoices and past orders keep the details they were created with — a frequent support question. To fix a single past order, edit that order directly in WooCommerce.
🧰 Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Save fails when changing the email | The address is invalid, or already belongs to another user. Every email must be unique across the site. |
| The role dropdown looks empty or short | It only lists roles your own account may assign. A Shop manager sees fewer roles than an Administrator. |
| The state field won’t accept my value | Pick the country first — the state list is populated from the selected country. A free-typed state that isn’t in that country’s list won’t save. |
| I don’t see an Edit option at all | Editing needs the Manage WooCommerce capability. Subscribers and customers cannot edit. |
