AI Insights

Email Reports for WooCommerce can open each report email with an AI insights block: a short written summary of what changed in the period and why, your key totals with their recent trend, callouts for unusual movements such as a refund spike or a coupon being passed around, and up to three suggested next steps.

AI Insights was added in version 3.7.8. If you do not see an AI Insights tab under WooCommerce → Email Reports, update the plugin.

AI Insights runs on your own API key for Claude (Anthropic) or Gemini (Google). The service bills your account directly. Requests go straight from your store to that service — no report data passes through zorem, and zorem adds no charge of its own.

What’s included

Part of the blockWhat it showsWritten by
Headline and summaryOne sentence naming the most important change, then two or three sentences on what happened and what drove it.AI
Verdict badgeSTRONG, STEADY or SLOW for the day, week or month, compared with your usual level.Your data
Key totalsUp to three totals with the change on the previous period and a small bar chart of recent periods.Your data
Unusual movementsRefund spikes, sales drops, rising discounts and a coupon used far more than usual.Your data
Suggested next stepsUp to three practical actions, each citing the figure behind it.AI

Every figure in the block comes straight from WooCommerce Analytics, the same as the rest of the report. The AI service only writes the sentences around those figures, and is told to use nothing but the numbers it is given.

How to turn it on

  • Save an API key at WooCommerce → Email Reports → AI Insights. See Setting Up AI.
  • Open a report in the report builder and turn on Show insights summary under Report Settings. Each report has its own switch. See The Insights Block.
While AI is off — no key saved, or paused — nothing AI-related appears anywhere: there is no Show insights summary switch in the report builder, no block in the email, and no request to any AI service. Reports go out exactly as they did before 3.7.8.

Who can set it up

Saving, replacing or removing a key, choosing the service and model, pausing AI and testing the connection all need the manage_options capability — in practice, an Administrator. Report recipients do not need a WordPress account; they simply receive the block in the email.

Only the report’s own numbers and the breakdown tables it shows are sent to the AI service — never customer names, email addresses or addresses. For the full list, see AI Data & Privacy.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to check
There is no AI Insights tabYou are on a version before 3.7.8, or you are not logged in as an Administrator.
There is no Show insights summary switch in the report builderThe switch only appears while AI is on. Check that a key is saved and the API key row shows Connected, and that Use the AI features is not paused.
The block shows the totals but no written summaryThe AI service could not answer for that report. The email still goes out with the figures and a plain headline worked out from them. Use Test connection on the AI Insights tab, and check WooCommerce → Status → Logs for the sre-log source, which records why a summary was skipped.
No unusual movements are shownCallouts only appear when something is genuinely out of line, and most need at least three earlier periods to compare against. See Unusual Movement Callouts.
I changed the model, but the summary is the sameSaving the AI Insights tab clears saved summaries, so the next preview or send asks again. If you changed the report’s own options instead, the summary refreshes when the figures change.
